The ORIGINS Project

Who are we?
As well as enabling long-term research capacity, ORIGINS provides ‘real-time’ feedback to parents, allowing early intervention and potentially changing the health trajectory of the child.
Professor Desiree Silva, Co-Director
The ORIGINS Project
The ORIGINS Project, a collaboration between Telethon Kids Institute and Joondalup Health Campus, is following the progress of pregnant women, their partners and infants for the first five years of the child’s life. The project collects data and samples from 10,000 families to see how a child’s early environment and parents’ physical health and genetics influence the risk of a wide range of diseases and conditions.
What are we doing?

The ORIGINS Project - ORIGINS

Funding long-term global research on how, when and why non-communicable diseases develop. Collecting data on a child’s early environment and parents’ physical health and genetics at the antenatal stage, and at one, three and five years. This will help to understand the optimal time for interventions for early detection and prevention.
