The child protection and criminal justice systems need to do better for Aboriginal children and families in the Northern Territory. We also all know the importance of front-end support for keeping families together. Our Program is the way forward for an effective child protection system in the NT.
North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS)
The North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) is a government funded Aboriginal organisation and accredited community legal centre. NAAFLS provides culturally safe legal assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims of domestic and family violence in the Northern Territory. NAAFLS has offices in Darwin, Katherine and Nhulunbuy, and services over 40 remote communities across the Top End spanning from the Tiwi Islands, across to Borroloola and down to Lajamanu.
Our lawyers work with Aboriginal caseworkers to assist clients with domestic violence, child protection, family law and victims of crime compensation matters. Our caseworkers also support clients with information, referrals and general advocacy.
